Detailed instructions

Each player takes one game board with one set of letters.
Each player takes one word strip.

Phase I

Choose a set of three words from the word strip.
Take the letters in the first word and scramble them into a nonsense word in the work area.
Take letters for the second and third words and scramble these in work area also.
Players trade boards and take three minutes to decipher the scrambled words.
Players having difficulty can ask for a hint. The hint is on the word strip next to the word.
Before scoring, compare words; sometimes the same letters can spell two different words. That's OK! Keep a dictionary handy in case of questions and grant points for all actual words.
Scoring guidelines for phase I: For all words deciphered without a hint, score 2 points per letter. Bonus:10 points if all words were deciphered without a hint.
Example for scoring for phase I: wage (8 points), slush (10 points); no points for third word (random) since a hint was needed. No bonus points for this player. Total for this phase: 18 points.

Phase II

Combine all the letters on the board into a single pool of available letters.
Make words with these letters using each letter only once. Take three minutes. Words must be at least 2 letters long. Do not use names or abbreviations; do not use "s" to make a plural.
Show the words to each other.
Scoring guidelines for phase II: For each word formulated, score 5 points per letter. If all letters were used, add bonus of 25 points. For words over 5 letters, add 10 bonus points for each letter starting with the 6th.
Example for scoring phase II: slander (35 points), gash (20 points), mow (15 points); no points for unused letter. Add bonus for letters 6 and 7 in slander (20 points). Total for this phase: 90 points. Add to total of 18 points for phase I; combined total of 108 for this player in this round.
Note that there are other words that could have been formulated from the same pool of letters.
Put the letters back in place on the board. Start another round with a new set of words from the word strip.
